Description
The main purpose of this research study is to assess and compare energy dependency (ED) performance scores by focusing on South Asian economies within the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) framework. Data is utilized for the period 2003 to 2021. The results indicate that the energy sectors of Pakistan and India exhibited inefficient performance within the South Asian region. Both countries faced challenges in effectively using and producing energy from their primary energy resources, leading to a remarkable growth rate in ED. Considering these findings, it is crucial for Pakistan and India to critically review their existing energy policies based on scientific principles. The primary objective should be to develop and implement an appropriate energy policy that effectively reduces their dependency on energy imports and addresses the inefficiencies within their energy systems.
